What Amazon Announced About Bundles
In September 2026, Amazon posted a notice to its Seller Forums news channel changing how physical bundles can be listed. As reported, starting January 11, 2027, most physical product bundles sold under a single ASIN must be configurations packaged by the original manufacturer or brand. A bundle a seller assembles in their own warehouse, by shrink-wrapping a blender with a set of cups or pairing a phone case with another brand's charger, no longer qualifies on its own.
Sellers can still assemble a bundle themselves if they hold a Letter of Authorization from the brand owner or manufacturer of every brand in that bundle, granting permission to repackage the products together and sell that configuration on Amazon. A two-brand bundle needs two letters.
This is not entirely new. Amazon introduced a similar restriction for consumables bundles in the US store on October 14, 2024, with enforcement reported from January 1, 2025. The 2027 rule extends the same logic well beyond consumables to most categories.
"The bundles at risk are the ones you built yourself. Count them now, because every unit still sitting in a fulfillment centre on January 11 becomes a removal order."

Confirmed Rules Versus Open Questions
The core rule is reported consistently. Several practical details are not. The table separates what independent summaries of Amazon's notice agree on from what they describe differently or leave open.
| Point | What is reported (October 2026) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Effective date | January 11, 2027. Noncompliant inventory is reported sellable until then. | Consistent |
| Core requirement | Most physical bundles under one ASIN must be packaged by the original manufacturer or brand. | Consistent |
| Existing listings | Reported to apply to bundles already live, not only new ones. | Consistent |
| Exempt | Virtual Bundles, gifting browse nodes and camera product types. | Consistent |
| Noncompliance | Listing deactivation and a listing violation in Account Health. FBA stock needs a removal order. | Consistent |
| Newly permitted bundles | Books, Music, Video, DVD and Video Game bundles, plus bundles with generic secondary products, service plans or gift cards. Summaries differ on whether physically assembled versions still need manufacturer packaging. | Disputed |
| When to upload a letter | Through the Account Health dashboard. Most summaries describe this as a response to a flagged violation; whether letters can be filed in advance is reported unclear. | Unclear |
| Virtual Bundle eligibility | Some summaries say brand owners and authorized resellers; another lists Brand Registry and FBA for every component. | Disputed |
| Marketplaces | Not stated in the reporting we reviewed. The 2024 consumables rule applied to the US store. | Unconfirmed |
*Status reflects agreement between independent published summaries of Amazon's September 2026 notice, as of October 18, 2026. Consistent means every summary we reviewed reported the same thing. Disputed or unclear means they differ or leave it open. None of this replaces Amazon's own policy text; confirm each point in Seller Central for your marketplace.
A Bundle Audit Before January 11
Twelve weeks is enough time to sort a bundle catalogue if you start now. Work through it in this order.
Your Bundle Audit Checklist
List every bundle ASIN you sell
Mark each one as manufacturer-packaged, self-assembled single brand, self-assembled multi-brand, or virtual. Only the self-assembled ones carry risk under the new rule.
Check for an exemption
Gifting browse nodes are defined by Amazon's catalogue taxonomy, not by whether the item feels like a gift. Confirm the actual browse node and product type on each listing.
Request letters from every brand now
Ask in parallel, not one brand at a time. The letter needs to authorize repackaging with the other brands in the bundle and selling that configuration on Amazon. Keep signed copies ready to upload.
Slow replenishment on bundles you cannot clear
For any bundle without a realistic path to a letter or an exemption, size Q4 inbound shipments to sell through by January 10 rather than sending more stock that may need removing.
Decide your exit route per ASIN
Options include converting to a Virtual Bundle if you have access, reformulating as a single-brand kit, selling through and closing the listing yourself, or planning a removal order before the deadline.
One caution on the paperwork. Each deactivated ASIN is reported to count as its own listing violation, so a catalogue with dozens of noncompliant bundles can stack up dozens of entries on the Account Health dashboard at once. That is a reason to resolve bundles before January 11, not after. Our Account Health guide explains how listing violations feed into your rating.
The Bottom Line on Amazon's 2027 Bundling Policy
As reported, from January 11, 2027 most physical bundles listed under one ASIN must be packaged by the original manufacturer or brand, or covered by a Letter of Authorization from every brand in the bundle. Virtual Bundles, gifting browse nodes and camera product types are exempt, and noncompliant listings face deactivation plus a listing violation in Account Health.
Several details remain unsettled as of October 18, 2026, including when letters can be uploaded, who can create Virtual Bundles and which marketplaces are covered. Audit your bundles now, request letters in parallel, keep Q4 stock of uncertain bundles lean, and confirm every point in your own Seller Central account.
On our sourcing: This article summarizes Amazon's product bundling policy update as publicly reported between September and October 2026, drawing on independent industry coverage of the notice Amazon posted to its Seller Forums news channel in September 2026, including PPC Land, EcomCrew, Seller Essentials, Forest Shipping and a seller-focused law firm summary. The January 11, 2027 effective date, the manufacturer-packaged requirement, the Letter of Authorization requirement per brand, the exemptions for Virtual Bundles, gifting browse nodes and camera product types, the application to existing listings, and the deactivation and Account Health consequences were each reported consistently by more than one source. The October 14, 2024 consumables bundling rule is as reported by more than one source. Points where sources differ or are silent are flagged in the article rather than resolved: whether letters can be submitted before a violation, who is eligible for Virtual Bundles, which marketplaces the rule covers, and whether newly permitted bundle types still need manufacturer packaging when physically assembled. This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm the current policy text in Seller Central for your marketplace before changing inventory or listings.
